Owner and clinical director of:

McCallum Physiotherapy Clinic, Abbotsford, BC. Canada.

My primary work here is dedicated to the assessment and treatment of chronic neck dysfunctions [especially post-MVA] and I receive patient referrals from physiotherapists throughout Canada and the USA.

I worked with Dr V Pratt MD (Abbotsford) for 20 years (1990-2010) investigating the use of Prolotherapy in the management of chronic neck dysfunction.

Orthopaedic And Sports Injury Services (OASIS) clinic Mission, B.C., Canada

The primary function of the OASIS clinic is the rehabilitation of industrial and motor vehicle accident patients with a view to ‘early activation’ and a more rapid return to work.

Senior lecturer and the Chief Examiner (retired) for the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA).Senior lecturer and the Chief Examiner for the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT), a teaching arm of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (AAOMT).

Teacher and clinical instructor for the post-professional Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy Program (DScPT) at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan (1994-present). This post-professional Doctoral degree focuses specifically on becoming a master clinician in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy.

Clinical instructor and clinical mentor to students of:

  • Andrews University Doctor of Science Degree (DScPT)
  • the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT);
  • the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (CAMPT)

Qualifications

1972

Qualified as a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP), graduating at the Nottingham School of Physiotherapy, Nottingham, England.

1974

Immigrated to Canada. Qualified for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (MCPA).

1977

Registered as a teacher of the Orthopaedic Division of the CPA.

1978

Successfully challenged both Part ‘A’ and Part ‘B’ of the Examinations of the Orthopaedic Division of the CPA.

1981

Invited to be an Examiner for the Orthopaedic Division of the CPA.

1983

Invited to become a member of the Board of Chief Examiners for the Orthopaedic Division of the CPA.

Currently a member of the Orthopaedic Division is invited, or may apply, to be an Examiner if:

  • The member has been qualified for ten years or more,
  • The member has passed both levels of the Orthopaedic Examination,
  • The member has taught all levels of orthopaedic manual therapy courses leading up to the Level “A” Examination,
  • The member has contributed to the development of the Orthopaedic Division through presentation of clinical papers, clinical investigation or research, etc., and may become an examiner on completion of a “probationary” examination process.

An examiner may be invited to become a member of the Chief Examiners Board by continued competence as an examiner, made by exemplary clinical promotion of manual therapy education).

Educational Promotion

1979/80

Instigated and developed the Canadian Upper and Lower Quadrant courses. These courses concentrate on complex inter-related and chronic musculo-skeletal dysfunctions. They are currently an integral part of the curriculum of the Orthopaedic Division of CPA and NAIOMT, and have been incorporated into curriculum as Level III courses.

1981

Instigated and developed the Three Month Intermediate Manual Therapy course, held biannually in Vancouver, BC, aimed at giving developing manual therapists within Canada intensive supervised clinical instruction with teachers of manual therapy.

1988

Founded the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (IFOMT), whose aim is to teach and develop manual therapy skills to Physical Therapists within the USA. It is one of the few instructional institutes recognised by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (AAOMT).

1989

Selected to represent Canada at a special meeting of IFOMT to discuss and demonstrate the differences between Chiropractic and Physical Therapy high velocity, manipulative techniques.

Professional Awards

2002

Recipient of a CPA ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ in post-graduate education with specific regard to Biomechanics and Clinical Reasoning.

2010

Recipient of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (CAMPT) David Lamb ‘Golden Hands’ Award.

2011

Recipient of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (AAOMT) Kaltenborn ‘Teach I must’ Award.

2014

Lifetime Membership Award from the Canadian Academy of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy

2014

Commendation from the District of Mission and inducted in the ‘Mission Sports Hall of Fame’ for services in the BC Winter Games 2014.
